The Platinum class has now finished for 2021 but will be starting again on Tuesdays from 18th January 2022. The time for the class will now be 11.45am – 12.45pm

The Platinum class is for dogs who have passed their Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold test

The Platinum class has three stages which are Platinum, Platinum Plus and Ruby making it a varied and fun class. Each stage is made up of seven exercises and although you can progress through individual exercises in all stages, receiving a certificate for each exercise passed, you have to complete all seven exercises in each stage to get the Platinum, Platinum Plus and Ruby certificates. Your name and your dog’s name are added onto the Shield after completing each level . There are also lots of fun exercises to keep you and your dog interested including teaching your dog to read.

Below are a list of the exercises. A is Platinum, B is Platinum Plus and C is Ruby followed by the unassessed fun exercises.

ASSESSED EXERCISES

Heelwork:
A Including Right, left and about turns and positions on the move
B As above plus changes of pace
C As above incorporating circles, weaves and diagonals
Recalls:
A Recall (present) and finish
B An A recall indoors at 10 paces plus heelwork for 20 paces, including 2 changes of direction a change of pace and a sit at heel at the end
C Recall to heel at 10 paces outside plus walk to heel for 10 paces , then halt in any position , handler to back up 2 paces and recall the dog to finish.
Retrieves:
A Retrieve an object provided by the handler
B Retrieve a dumbbell/article provided by the assessor
C Retrieve a dumbbell/article over an obstacle
Sendaways:
A Sendaway to a designated area and drop
B Sendaway, drop and recall
C Sendaway, drop, redirect, drop and recall.
Stays:
A Sit stay 1 min + Down stay 3 mins handler in sight (additional commands permissible)
B Sit stay 2 mins + Down stay 5 mins handler in sight  (additional commands permissible)
C Sit stay 2 mins + Down stay 5 mins handler out of sight  (no additional commands)
Scent Discrimination:
A Dog to select 1 cloth with handlers scent from 6 cloths (5 unscented)
B Dog to select 1 cloth with handlers scent from 10 cloths (8 unscented  + 1 decoy)
C Dog to select 1 cloth with assessor’s scent from multiple cloths, multiple decoys (6 – 12 cloths)
Distance Control:
A Sit, down and stand at 5 paces, 6 position sequence determined by the handler (some movement permissible)
B Sit, down and stand at 10 paces, 6 position sequence determined by the handler (minor movement permissible)
C Sit, down and stand at 10 – 20 paces in a defined area, 6 position sequence determined by assessor (minor movement permissible)

UNASSESSED FUN EXERCISES

Alert tasks (door bell, phone ringing)

Assistance tasks (help with laundry, shopping, undressing,and picking up dropped objects)

Back command

Change/swap etc command

Competition obedience and being judged

Double about command

Elimination exercises

Handler awareness (canine cues and how to prevent chasing)

Memory test (canine 1 min +)

Non verbal cues and body signals from handler

Play with your dog
